A position on the committee that focuses on social events is available and members are encouraged to send in their expression of interest.
Hello and Kaya Perth Scorpion Members and our wonderful community,
It has been an amazing start to the year, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your on-going support of our club. The Perth Scorpions Volleyball Club is committed to providing a safe, all-inclusive environment for members of the LGBTQI+ community, and its allies, who align with our values, to practice, play and compete in Volleyball. As a club we have achieved a lot this year already with the committee constantly reviewing and measuring our successes against our first Strategic Plan. The committee meets monthly to review our strategic intentions and ensure that the club is moving forward in ways that do not impact our community, culture, or values in any negative way.
Before I get into the operational information, celebrations and strategic notices that are below, I would like to pass on my thanks and gratitude to some key people that ensure that what we do at Scorpions is possible.
Mitch J
Eamonn L
Rey J
These three members continue to dedicate their time and efforts to helping our members develop their Volleyball Skills on a weekly basis. I would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication to our club.
The committee is aiming to continue to release these kinds of updates on a Monthly basis to ensure that our members are well informed about what is happening in Scorpions land.
Please see the below May Update for 2023
The Committee is looking for a dedicated individual that might like to take on the role of Events Coordinator. This role focuses on the social events aspect of our club and assists in the organisation of events such as monthly drinks, movie nights, mini-golf, and bowling, just to name a few examples. This position sits on the club's committee, and you will have the opportunity to provide input on other strategic and operational matters within the club. You can find our more information about the position here: Position Description - Events Coordinator (revolutionise.com.au)
If you are interested in the position, please email me at shaun.barnett@perthscorpionsvolleyball.com.au. Expressions of Interest will close on Sunday the 11th of June.
What connects you to the Scorpions Volleyball Club?
Is it the culture of a safe space to be accepted and to be yourself? Is it the competitive play opportunities? Is it just to keep fit and healthy and create new social circles? Whatever your reason, I am committed to significantly improving the value and benefit you receive as a member of the Perth Scorpions.
expanding our coaching and training staff;
additional volleyball training and development opportunities;
subsidised member events, social engagements and competition playing fees;

subsidising uniforms and merchandise;
any much, much, more
Congratulations to all our Loftus teams for an excellent start to the season. The teams continue to develop their skills at our weekly training on Sundays. Last week, Pincers had some small group, team-based training focusing on positioning, and receiving. More team training will continue to become available over the next few weeks. We are continuing to work with Loftus regarding their Thursday night competition to find a solution to the challenges around only three teams. We will keep members updated as these conversations are ongoing.
Congratulations to all the teams on their amazing results so far.

Our first ever WAVL team continues to slay, winning two out of their three games. Weekly training also continues to assist the team in developing their skills and enhancing the cohesion between team members. As a club we are excited to see the ongoing development of this team, and future teams in WAVL. The club hopes to enter 3 or 4 teams next year into the competition, including teams in the women and junior leagues. We continue to seek development players that might be interested in playing in WAVL next year and would like additional training and coaching. If you are interested in this opportunity, please reach out to me.
Congratulations to the team for a great season so far.
We encourage all members to support the team at games. Fixtures and results can be found here: Fixtures & results - Perth Scorpions Volleyball Club

A big thank you to all the members that supported the Perth Spectres Basketball Club with their annual Gala event the "Basket-Ball". It was an amazing night, and everyone looked fabulous. We look forward to supporting the Spectres with their event next year.
Some of our members had an amazing night supporting the Perth Hornets at their annual quiz night. Although the team did not win, it was an amazing atmosphere with lots of laughs.
On the 20th of May, members of the committee were invited to attend the annual VWA conference. This event is open to all clubs and associations that are Platinum Affiliates with VWA. The conference allowed clubs to provide input on Volleyball WA's progress against their current strategic plan. As a club, we were able to update VWA on the vision and passion behind Perth Scorpions Volleyball Club. VWA also released their 2022 Annual Report, which I encourage members to look at, even if it is just the Perth Scorpions Section: Volleyball-WA-Annual-Report-2022-download-rev.pdf (volleyballwa.com.au). It was interesting to hear the challenges that VWA continue to face considering the explosive number of clubs and teams that joined WAVL this year, a number that they predict will continue to rise in the next few years as well. As a club we will continue to support and provide input on VWA policies and strategy moving forward.
Thank you for the invitation to attend, VWA and thank you to the members that spent their Saturday volunteering their time at the conference.
A big thank you to everyone who has supported the club so far this year, especially to our volunteers in our committee and coaching development teams. I am looking forward to the second half of the year, when we can continue to build on our existing strengths and develop our strategies and initiatives further.
